Sweet Temptations Bake Shop is a family business in every sense of the word – it was founded by Eli Hernández and her four children. Today, three years later, the whole family still runs every aspect of the everyday operations.

Sweet Temptations is one of the many businesses that have bet on Howard Street. When they opened in January 2016, they were not sure what to expect from their 607 Howard Street location, but so far it has worked well for them.

When asked why they chose Evanston, they reply that Evanston chose them. While they were looking for potential locations, a family friend told them about a bakery that was closing on Howard Street, so they decided to take a leap of faith, since the space was already built for a bakery.

Eli worked at two different bakeries, including the defunct Swedish Bakery in Andersonville. At the same time, she and her children baked cakes on the side for 15 years before opening Sweet Temptations. At her store, she now focuses on custom cakes, cookies, pastries, coffee, cupcakes, pies, and holiday treats, and has been working on catering treats to Northwestern University.
